, the warehouse that generates its own green energy
With Aut0nom®, 2050 is today!
In 2022
ARGAN inaugurated the first Aut0nom®, the warehouse that produces and consumes its own green energy. Between 30% and 40% of the warehouse’s total energy needs are covered by green energy generated from the rooftop photovoltaic plant, either through immediate self-consumption or deferred self-consumption thanks to storage batteries.
Heating is provided by electric heat pumps. Gas, the main source of CO₂ emissions and a more expensive energy option, has now been eliminated.
In the end, Aut0nom®’s CO₂ emissions are reduced tenfold compared to those of a traditional warehouse.
In 2025
ARGAN is undertaking an ambitious reforestation initiative in Cestas (33) to offset the residual carbon footprint of its developments (equivalent to 1 kg of CO₂/m²/year) over the next ten years.
Covering a 40-hectare area located near two ARGAN-owned sites, this reforestation project—eligible for the Low Carbon Label issued by the French government—aims to restore a forest affected by decline due to an insect infestation.
Nearly 52,000 trees will be planted in 2025, targeting a total CO₂ benefit of 8,700 tonnes.

Focus on Cestas
ARGAN has decided to take a new step forward in its carbon-related commitments in service of its clients. The goal is to make Aut0nom® the first zero-carbon warehouse concept in terms of use. Beyond energy performance measures and the self-consumed renewable energy production with storage — which have already reduced CO₂ emissions from use by 90% — ARGAN has launched a large-scale carbon capture program based on a reforestation project in the municipality of Cestas, in the Gironde region.

Thanks to the Cestas reforestation project, all new ARGAN Aut0nom warehouses have been carbon neutral in use since 2025
The Cestas reforestation project aims to restore a forest affected by a harmful insect, the pine weevil (Pissodes), by replanting mainly Maritime Pine — a symbolic species well-suited to local conditions. It also includes Sessile Oak and Pedunculate Oak to diversify tree species, with particular attention to preserving biodiversity, wetlands, and ditches. Carried out by local companies certified in sustainable forest management, the site’s maintenance will be gradual and adapted each year to maintain soil quality and prevent the spread of the insect.
Covering more than 39 hectares with around 52,000 trees planted, this project is led by Oklima, an EDF subsidiary specializing in carbon capture. It follows best practices in sustainable management and aims to obtain the French government’s Low-Carbon Label, along with PEFC certification. Initiated by ARGAN, this reforestation effort complements our actions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, without replacing our other commitments related to climate and decarbonization.
